Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that can be applied to the face, hands, and neck. They're used to improve the appearance or feel of the skin. During this procedure, chemical solutions will be applied to the area being treated, which causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. While you shouldn't feel pain during or after the procedure, you may experience slightly increased sensitivity after. To avoid irritation or discomfort on your newly resurfaced skin, do not exfoliate for 48 hours after your chemical peel.
A light chemical peel or glycolic peel will last 1 to 2 months. About 4 to 6 monthly treatments work well to maintain fine wrinkles, discoloration and photo damage, and once this series is over, maintenance or "lunchtime" peels can be scheduled as needed. Chemical peels can improve the skin's appearance. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it "blister" and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
