Understanding Chemical Peels for Flawless Skin

Chemical peels use controlled acid application to remove damaged outer skin layers, revealing smoother, more even-toned skin beneath. The depth of the peel determines both the results and recovery time.
Types of Peels
Superficial peels (glycolic, lactic, mandelic acid) treat surface texture, mild pigmentation, and congestion with no downtime. Medium-depth peels (TCA 20-35%) address acne scars, moderate sun damage, and deeper pigmentation with 5-7 days of peeling. Deep peels (phenol) target severe wrinkles and significant pigmentation but require longer recovery.
Peels for Indian Skin
Indian skin (Fitzpatrick type IV-V) requires careful peel selection because higher concentrations increase post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk. Mandelic and lactic acids are gentler starting points. Pre-treatment with sunscreen and a retinoid or hydroquinone for 4-6 weeks significantly reduces PIH risk.
